From the mesmerizing habitats to the diverse wildlife they support, wetlands are truly marvelous ecosystems. Join us in celebrating their beauty and significance while learning how we can protect and preserve these vital environments.

5th Grade Poster

All Wilkes County 5th graders are invited to participate in our poster contest.

All Wilkes County 6-12th graders are invited to participate in our Essay contest. Middle school competes on individual grade levels. High school is all judged together on 1 level.

General Information for all grades

You can find information from the Fall Field Days 2024 and provided resources in our Google Drive Folder Here!

Each school or homeschool may submit their 3 best entries per contest category by 5:00 pm on the deadline date for that category. 

 

Once the district receives the entries per contest category, a panel of judges will select a single school winner from each school, then a 1st-4th place county winner. Please note all homeschool entries will be judged together as a school entry to have a single homeschool school winner, then to compete for the 1st-4th place county winner.

 

5th Grade School Winner students will be presented with their letter and a poster calendar at the school. Additional calendars can be purchased through our office.

 

All School Winners will receive a letter in the mail in mid-February 2025 to notify them of the Awards Banquet details.

​

The placements for 1st-4th in the county will be announced at the banquet. 1st place winners will move on to the Area competition which includes Wilkes and 12 surrounding counties, these event judging will take place in March 2025.

 

Students should be prepared to present their winning contest entry, such as reading their essay, delivering their speech, or presenting their slideshow at the banquet if they are the district winner.

2025 Wilkes SWCD Education Banquet

The Wilkes Soil & Water Conservation District will hold its annual awards banquet to honor all 5th-12th grade school winners in the poster, essay, slideshow, and public speaking contests. As well as students competing in the Envirothon.

 

School Winners are invited to attend with their family/guardian, teacher(s), and principal(s) on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 6:00 pm, at the Edwin H. McGee Natural Resource Center in North Wilkesboro.

 

Please RSVP by Feb. 28, 2025.

 

We will begin the event promptly at 6:00 pm with a salad and spaghetti supper with awards and recognitions to follow.

 

It gives the District great pleasure to recognize our talented young people each year at this event. We look forward to a fun evening and are pleased that you will be sharing it with us this year.
